Concert-Lecture “From Latvia to Berlin: A Woman’s Voice for Freedom”

European Latvian Youth Association and German-Baltic Future Foundation invite you to: Concert-Lecture “From Latvia to Berlin: A Woman’s Voice for Freedom”

We invite you to a special concert-lecture where Latvian folk songs, personal stories, and the realities of contemporary Europe come together.

The concert-lecture brings together centuries-old Latvian folk songs about war with the personal testimonies of Ukrainian women today. Through the voices of women — mothers,

sisters, and daughters — themes of war, resilience, loss, and hope emerge,

transcending time and borders.

The musical framework will be created by kokle musicians from the Riga Latvian Society “Rīgas danči”: Rozīte Katrīna Ponne, Malvīne Mantiniece, Agnese Lukjanova, and Dzintars Jēkabs Spīčs. They will be joined by Latvian youth from Berlin. Through music, we will give voice to the stories of Ukrainian women — both those currently in Ukraine and those whom the war has brought to Berlin. Their stories have been collected by Mariia Lesiv. A personal perspective from a young man will be shared by Bruno Stuks, who recently returned from compulsory

military service in Latvia.

This concert-lecture creates a space for empathy, dialogue, and shared reflection on freedom, responsibility, and the role and significance of women in times of war and peace.
