The German-Baltic Future Foundation offers a total of three scholarships for each semester. Two scholarships are reserved for students in Tartu/Dorpat.


The following are eligible to apply

a) Students from the Baltic States and Germany who want to use their education and talents to promote lasting social understanding between the Baltic region and its neighbors and who are completing a degree or internship in Germany, Scandinavia, or the Baltic States.

b) Students from Ukraine who want to use their education and talents to promote understanding between their home country and the Baltic region in a socially sustainable manner and who intend to study or complete an internship in Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania.


Scholarship benefits:

The scholarships are limited to the specified semester and comprise a total of €900, which is paid out in three installments of €300 each.


Scholarship recipients are required to submit a monthly report on their studies/internship progress and to attend a seminar organized by the German-Baltic Future Foundation.


Application periods:

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. The following deadlines must be observed:

  • Applications for a scholarship in the winter semester (semester begins between September and November): August 31 of the respective year.
  • Applications for a scholarship in the summer semester (semester begins between March and May): February 28 of the respective year.

The complete application documents for a scholarship include:

  • A letter of motivation showing how the applicant has already worked towards the above-mentioned goals and/or intends to do so in the future.
  • A tabular resume with a current photo.
  • Certificates (school leaving certificate, previous university/college degrees, language certificates as well as other assessments and evidence).

The scholarship program of the German-Baltic Future Foundation has supported approximately 60 students from the Baltic States to date and has been supported for many years by a group of alumni of the Fraternitas Dorpatensis in Munich.


The German-Baltic Future Foundation promotes exchange and understanding between young adults from Germany, the Baltic States, and Ukraine on the basis of democracy and human rights. To this end, it organizes seminars, congresses, and conferences, arranges internships, and awards scholarships.
